Results of the Finals of Year-End Mixed Doubles Tournament

With perfect weather conditions on Sunday, the finals of both the A-Side and B-Side of the Mixed Doubles Tournament were completed.  Both matches were definitely entertaining and provided some great rallies.

The A-Side final pitted Chris Ward and Aneeka Bhalla against the team of Barb Taylor and Paul Fischer.  Only one break separated the two teams in both sets and Chris Ward and Aneeka Bhalla emerged victorious with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

The B-Side Final was also a great match between Sonya Goodanetz and Nhan Doan against Dana Geber and Arhur Karp.  Dana and Arthur tried everything they could to send the match to a third set, but ultimately came up short, losing 6-1, 7-6.  It was a very valiant effort by both teams.

The conclusion of the Mixed Doubles Tournament brings to an end the tournament season of the Barrhaven Tennis Club.  All three tournaments (Open Doubles, Phil LeBlanc Memorial Tournament, and the Mixed Doubles) provided plenty of great tennis and some fantastic matchups.  Thank you to all those who participated in the various tournaments and I hope to see you all in the courts and competing in these tournaments next year.

Results for Semi-Finals of Mixed Doubles Tournament and Start Time for Finals

The semi-finals for the mixed doubles tournament provided plenty of excitement as four pairs were vying for the two spots in the finals to take place on Sunday afternoon.  The question of rest versus rust would be decided as the teams of Chris Ward and Aneeka Bhalla along with Barb Taylor and Paul Fischer had first-round byes.

Both teams displayed excellent doubles play to advance to the finals.  Chris & Aneeka advanced with a victory over Jon and Nancy Trudel.  While on the bottom half of the draw, Barb Taylor and Paul Fischer emerged victorious defeating Julia Taylor and Ha Nguyen.

So the finals are set for Sunday afternoon.  The consolation final will also be taking place as Arthur Karp and Dana Geber will compete against Nhan Doan and Sonya Goodanetz.  Here are the start times for both matches:

1:00 PM: A-Side Final: Chris Ward and Aneeka Bhalla vs Barb Taylor and Paul Fischer
               B-Side Final: Dana Geber and Arthur Karp vs Nhan Doan and Sonya Goodanetz

Results for Quarter-Finals of the Mixed Doubles Tournament

The opening round of the mixed doubles tournament took place this past Friday with two matches.  Nancy Trudel and Jon Trudel advanced to the semi-finals defeating Dana Geber and Arthur Karp.  Their next opponents will be the team of Chris Ward and Aneeka Bhalla.

In the other match of the evening, Julia Taylor and Ha Nguyen defeated Nhan Doan and Sonya Goodanetz.  Their opponents will be Barb Taylor and Paul Fischer.

The match times for the semi-finals for Saturday are as follows:

1:00 PM: Chris Ward & Aneeka Bhalla vs Jon Trudel and Nancy Trudel
               Paul Fischer & Barb Taylor vs Ha Nguyen & Julia Taylor

Here's hoping for two excellent semi-final matches!!

Schedule for Opening Round of Year-End Mixed Doubles Tournament

This weekend is the Year-End Mixed Doubles Tournament.  Six teams will be vying to win the championship.  Tonight, the Quarter-Finals will take place with two matches.  Here are the start times for the matches:

6:00 PM: Jon Trudel and Nancy Trudel vs Dana Geber and Arthur Karp
               Nhan Doan and Sonya Goodanetz vs Ha Nguyen and Julia Taylor

Those who prevail in tonight's matches will advance to the Semi-Finals which are to take place Saturday, September 10th at 1:00 PM.  Teams who fail to win this evening will receive a bye to the Consolation Finals on Sunday, September 11th at 1:00.
