With perfect weather conditions on Sunday, the finals of both the A-Side and B-Side of the Mixed Doubles Tournament were completed. Both matches were definitely entertaining and provided some great rallies.
The A-Side final pitted Chris Ward and Aneeka Bhalla against the team of Barb Taylor and Paul Fischer. Only one break separated the two teams in both sets and Chris Ward and Aneeka Bhalla emerged victorious with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
The B-Side Final was also a great match between Sonya Goodanetz and Nhan Doan against Dana Geber and Arhur Karp. Dana and Arthur tried everything they could to send the match to a third set, but ultimately came up short, losing 6-1, 7-6. It was a very valiant effort by both teams.
The conclusion of the Mixed Doubles Tournament brings to an end the tournament season of the Barrhaven Tennis Club. All three tournaments (Open Doubles, Phil LeBlanc Memorial Tournament, and the Mixed Doubles) provided plenty of great tennis and some fantastic matchups. Thank you to all those who participated in the various tournaments and I hope to see you all in the courts and competing in these tournaments next year.

Junior Players of the Month For July
July's players of the month are Riley and Marley Meddings!!!
Both Riley and Marley were key teammates this past month for the Barrhaven team within the NCTA Junior League. Their matches always went down to the wire, with many times the matches ending in tiebreaks. Riley was also a ballboy for this year's Phil LeBlanc Memorial Tournament. Marley will be looking to help out in next year's tournament as well.
Both Marley and Riley enjoy competing head to head which is similar to their favorite players. Riley's favorite player is Novak Djokovic who continues to have great matches against Marley's favorite player Rafael Nadal.
Marley and Riley have differing favorite shots to use when the situation presents itself. When given the chance on a lob, Riley likes to use his favorite shot, the overhead smash. This is in contrast to Marley, who would rather end a rally on a forehand down the line.
Both sibblings have other interests outside of the tennis court. When Riley is not playing tennis, he enjoys playing with friends on game consoles such as the XBOX 360. Marley's outside interests include playing volleyball, hanging out with friends and spending time on Facebook!
In closing, Marley and Riley have been part of the Barrhaven Tennis Club Program for several years now and they continue to improve as each summer progresses. Riley can be seen as the unofficial team captain of the junior team and we look forward to seeing him participate in the Phil LeBlanc Memorial Tournament in a couple of years time. Not to be outdone, Marley is one of the strongest players on the junior team and should be expected to take on a leadership role in the years to come!
Congratulations to both Riley and Marley!!!

Junior Players of the Month for June
This past month's Junior Players of the Month are sisters Abhisheka and Shobana (Abhi and Shobi for short) Vengadeswaran!!
This past month Abhi and Shobi began the NCTA Junior Season by displaying some great tennis which contributed to some very exciting matches. Their high enthousiasm coupled with constantly wanting to play tennis contributed to their selections as Players of the Month.
While the two sisters share the same favorite tennis player in Novak Djokovic, their styles are very much different. Abhi's favorite shot is the dropshot, which indicates a more strategic aspect of playing. Whereas Shobi's favorite shot is the backhand, which is her best shot when using the power game.
When the two sisters are not on the tennis courts, they spend their time skiing and snowboarding during the winter or listening to music in their spare time. Abhi's favorite singer is Katy Perry or Drake while Shobi's favorite group is Blind Guardian.
In closing, these two sisters have just begun their NCTA Junior Season and Abhi and Shobi have the potential to become the cornerstones of Barrhaven's junior team for years to come. Congratulations!

Adult Socials Round Robin and Pub: Saturday, June 18th
We had our first Social BBQ event on Saturday, May 21st with over 30 members attending. It was a huge success. Not only did the weather cooperate but more importantly, the attendance by the members exceeded expectations and everyone had a great time. Thank you to Geoff Pearce, Thomas Young, and all the volunteers who made the event such a successful one!
Over and above our regular round robins on Tuesday and Friday nights, we have scheduled monthly Adult Socials events to encourage new and existing members to interact both on and off the courts. Our next upcoming social will be held on Saturday, June 18th from 2:00-5:00. The social will begin with a round robin. Following the round robin, all members are invited to attend an "après-tennis" at Greenfields Pub & Eatery (food and refreshments are at your own cost). Greenfields Pub & Eatery is located at 900 Greenbank Rd..
The schedule for the rest of the tennis season is as follows:
July: No social round robin due to the Kickoff Barbecue to the Phil LeBlanc Memorial Tournament
August: Social Round Robin and Potluck: Saturday, August 13th, 1:00-4:00 PM (Potluck at BTC after 4PM)
We strongly encourage members of all skill levels to participate in the Socials as they are always a great opportunity to have fun and meet new friends.
If you have any additional questions regarding the adult socials, feel free to contact Michel Gour (
.
Hope to see you all at the next Adult Social Round Robin!
