Results from Finals of Open Doubles Tournament

While the weather threatened to potentially postpone the matches today, the finals for the Open Doubles Tournament concluded this afternoon.  In a highly competitive match, involving great back and forth rallies with some tremendous volleys at the net, John Payette and Brett Shepherd were able to emerge victorious and win their first Doubles Championship 6-2, 6-2 over Gary Pinder and Dave McAleer!!!  The score was not indicative of the contest as many games went the distance, keeping those in attendance in suspense as to who would ultimately win the championship.  The two teams did not disappoint with high quality doubles play.

In other news, Nhan Doan and Paul Fischer have won the B-Side Finals as Mike Fowler and Darcy Ross were unable to compete.

I would like to thank all of the participants for entering the Open Doubles Tournament.  For the third year in a row we were able to get a full draw for the tournament which provided some great match-ups.

Our next club tournament is in less than four weeks time with the Phil LeBlanc Memorial Tournament running from July 22-29. We expect to see even more drama and excitement in July and I hope that you can all witness the tournament that has become a highlight of the tennis season!

Spots in the finals for the Open Doubles Tournament were at stake on Saturday as two A-Side Semi-Finals and one B-Side Finals took place.

Earlier in the day, Brett Shepherd and John Payette punched their ticket to the finals with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 victory over Bob Streicher and Patrick LeBlanc.

Their opponents in the finals tomorrow are the defending champions Gary Pinder and Dave McAleer who prevailed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Nick and Matt Hepburn.

The B-Side Finals were also determined on Saturday as Mike Fowler and Darcy Ross advanced with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Connor Roth and Dimitrije Gojkovic.  They will take on Nhan Doan and Paul Fischer after Gary Burke and Shreekant Date could not compete due to injury.

Here is the schedule for tomorrow's matches:

4:00 PM Brett Shepherd and John Payette vs Dave McAleer and Gary Pinder (A-Side Finals)

7:00 PM Darcy Ross and Mike Fowler vs Nhan Doan and Paul Fischer (B-Side Finals)

Both matches should provide plenty of excitement to wrap up the Open Doubles Tournament so I encourage anyone available to attend either match.

Have a great evening!

Schedule for Opening Round of 2012 Open Doubles Tournament

Attention BTC Members,

The opening round for this year's Open Doubles Tournament will be taking place on Friday, June 22nd.  For the third year in a row, we have a full draw with some very talented teams.

All  first-round matches are to take place (weather permitting) this Friday at 7:00 PM.

Gary Pinder and Dave McAleer open their defense of last year's championship against a young upstart team in Connor Roth and Dimitrije Gojkovic.

Darcy Ross and Mike Fowler hoping to build on last year's final appearance where they lost in three sets will take on the first brother duo in this tournament in Nick and Matt Hepburn.

In other action, a strong favorite to advance to the finals, Brett Shepherd and John Payette will have to overcome the team of Gary Burke and Shreekant Date to keep the finals within reach.

And finally, the team of Bob Streicher and Patrick LeBlanc will look to erase last year's heartbreaking semi-final loss when they open against Paul Fischer and Nhan Doan.

All matches throughout the weekend should be entertaining so I invite everyone who is available to come out and watch some great doubles action.
